Everyone Has a Style: Why Your Personal Style Is Already There

Just in case you didn't know… you already have a style.
You might not have a wardrobe full of designer pieces. You might not follow fashion trends or spend much time thinking about what is currently “in”. You may even look into your wardrobe some mornings and feel that you have absolutely nothing to wear.
But you still have a personal style.
Because every day, you make choices.
You choose what you are going to wear to work. You choose what feels right for a meeting, a school run, a networking event, a lunch with friends or a special occasion. You choose the colours you are naturally drawn to, the shapes you feel comfortable wearing and the pieces you find yourself reaching for again and again.
Those choices are your style.
And I think there is something really empowering about recognising that.

Your personal style is already yours
Personal style isn't about knowing everything there is to know about fashion.
It isn't about owning the latest trends, having a perfectly organised wardrobe or knowing the names of every silhouette and fabric.
It is much more personal than that.
Your style is an expression of who you are, how you live and how you want to feel.
It can change as your life changes, too.
The woman you were in your twenties may not dress in the same way today. Your wardrobe might have evolved as your career developed, as your lifestyle changed, as you became a mum or simply as you became more comfortable with who you are.
And that is completely natural.
Style isn't something you have to find once and then stick to forever. It can grow and evolve with you.
So, what does a personal stylist actually do?
This is something I think is often misunderstood.
A personal stylist isn't there to tell you who you should be or to replace your style with somebody else's.
Good personal styling starts with you.
It is about understanding what you already love, what you naturally gravitate towards and how you want your clothes to make you feel.
From there, a personal stylist can help you refine your style and make more informed choices.
That might mean understanding the colours that complement you, discovering the proportions and silhouettes that work beautifully for your body, or learning which shapes create the balance and definition you are looking for.
It might mean looking at your wardrobe differently and discovering new ways to combine pieces you already own.
Or it could be about creating a wardrobe that genuinely works for your lifestyle — one that supports your work, your family life, social occasions, weekends and all the different roles you move between.
Because a beautiful wardrobe isn't necessarily the one with the most clothes.
It is the one that works for your life.
Style should make life easier
For many women, particularly busy mums and professionals, getting dressed can become something we simply have to get through.
There are mornings when you are thinking about everyone else before yourself. There are busy working days, school runs, meetings, events and evenings when you have very little time to think about what you are going to wear.
That doesn't mean you don't care about your appearance.
It simply means that life is busy.
This is where having a better understanding of your personal style can make such a difference.
When you know the colours that work for you, the proportions you feel best in and the wardrobe pieces that genuinely suit your lifestyle, getting dressed can become much simpler.
You begin to recognise what works.
You stop buying pieces simply because you like them on someone else.
You become more confident combining what you already own.
And, perhaps most importantly, you can start to feel more like yourself in your clothes.
You don't need a completely new wardrobe
One of the things I love most about personal styling is discovering that you often don't need to start again.
Sometimes, your wardrobe already contains much more potential than you realise.
A different combination. A change of proportion. A more flattering colour. A simple styling adjustment. The right shoe or accessory. A new way of wearing something you have had for years.
Small changes can completely transform how an outfit feels.
And sometimes the most valuable thing a stylist can give you isn't another shopping list.
It's knowledge.
Knowledge that helps you make better choices for yourself long after the styling session has finished.
Your style is a reflection of you
Ultimately, personal style isn't about dressing to impress other people.
It is about creating an outward expression that feels aligned with who you are on the inside.
You can be professional without losing your personality.
You can be feminine, confident, creative, understated, colourful, classic or completely individual.
There isn't one right way to dress.
There is only what feels right for you.
So, if you've ever thought that you don't really have a style, I hope you will look at it a little differently.
You already have one.
Every choice you make is contributing to it.
And if you want to understand it better, refine it, build a wardrobe around it and feel more confident expressing it, that is where personal styling can help.
Because you don't need to become someone else.
You simply need to discover how to make more of the woman you already are.
